I think the idea is that he will never use water to destroy mankind again. Hence the belief that armageddon won't be water based. Either way it doesn't really matter, it's pointless reading too much into myths, it's a bit like when people over-analyse Star Trek chronologies & stuff.

New Flood Thread: The Rainbow Covenant
by JimmyPage inokay, so god says a rainbow is the reminder of his promise to never again destroy mankind by means of floodwater.. but according to jws, he's still going to destroy mankind again- just by other means.
wtf?.
yeah, looking at that rainbow is a real comfort, god.

They're not allowed to teach, i think that's the way they interpret that scripture. That's why when women give talks they have to do it in pairs, facing eachother, so that they are not actually facing the congregation & teaching them.
Yup, pretty fucked up!

Embarrassing Moments on the Platform
by HintOfLime ini was thinking the other day about a potential answer to the frequent party question 'what was your most embarrassing moment?'.
immediately my mind went to my last experience on the theocratic school.
as an aspiring ms, i volunteered at the last minute to give a #4 talk on a particular individual (ignorant of what i was about to get myself into).

It really doesn't surprise me that so many people cry at the hall, it is a pretty upsetting place.

I agree with Jehovah's Witnesses!
by UnDisfellowshipped ini agree with jehovah's witnesses!.
(i bet reniaa will be shocked to see this thread!).
to jehovah's witnesses: i commend your zeal for god, your desire for accurate knowledge and truth of the bible, your goals of drawing close to jehovah, and following and obeying christ's teachings, and your time spent studying the bible.

I don't agree with any of it, so i guess i don't really have any common ground with the j-dubs anymore, or any christians for that matter. However, had i ever lived under the mosaic law i probably would have been an incredibly unhappy person, so i can agree with christians that the mosaic law should no longer apply, but for different reasons... i think it shouldn't apply because it is cruel & pointless, whereas christians believe it no longer applies because God said so, & they still support the God who initially imposed the mosaic law. I don't believe in God, i believe the mosaic law was invented by idiotic hebrew men.
I much prefer the christian idea of the golden rule, but it should be noted that the golden rule predates christianity. As for the j-dubs, they still are under the mosaic law (or parts of it) anyway, not that they would realise that.

I can't imagine doing THAT in my wildest dreams.....
by AK - Jeff inputting on a three piece suit to spend a 90 degree summer day knocking on doors and trespassing!dragging an entire family, including babies and young children to three or four day meetings in an outdoor stadium, living in a seedy motel room for the week.getting home from work and spending the next six hours cramming for a 'theocratic review', getting the entire family ready to go, gulping down dinner, and speeding off to the hall, and then finally getting home around 11 pm, hurrying off to bed so that everyone could get up for work and school in the morning!going to school to explain to the teachers why little johnny can't color pictures of santa, salute the flag of his country, eat birthday cake with all the other 5 year olds, bow his head when prayer is offered, or exchange valentines with all the cute 5 year old girls in class.
and then explaining with grace why he is not immersed in a cult!well, on and on!
these things were typical of my witness life - now i cannot imagine ever doing such silly things, and especially thinking that somehow they would bring pleasure to my god!.

I've heard of instances of sisters falling off the platform during talks & the like... & weird people walking in to the hall & hitting people. There were often drunks turning up when i was young, people would start crying while giving talks, & the equipment would routinely fail, songs would skip due to scratched CD's, etc...
At the end of a DC a very old brother gave the following prayer: "Our loving father Jehovah, thank you! Amen"
And at the hall i grew up in there was a french brother who used to give a lot of talks that no one could understand due to his strong accent. I remember during his prayers people would randomly say amen at different points, thinking he had said it...
I farted really loud once, although i was only about 7 years old, so i can barely remember it.
My uncle once told me about a guy who 'swore' during a public talk by mistake... the weird part is that 'got off the platform straight after'... i mean, why? why get off the platform? it's only a mistake, & an embarrassing one as well, there's no reason to punish yourself further

GB says they are NOT responsible for people acting on their counsel

15if a witness makes decisions on the basis of bible counsel offered by the governing body, he does so of his own volition because his own study of the bible has convinced him that this is the proper course.

I think it's about time someone went into the governing body's 'lair' with a shot gun.

Both are made-up names from disparate mythological stories.
